Calcium Carbonate

Calcium Carbonate is found almost everywhere on earth.  It can form naturally inoganically or rocks (especially Calcite and Limestone).  As well as it forms organically in Shells (Sea and Egg). It can even be found in leafy green vegetables. You may have it around the house, as it can be used to settle an upset stomach.  Because it is an alkali it will counteract too much stomach acid. Bicarbonate Hydration

This is simply another for of Sodium Bicarbonate.  Not usually found in this way around the house, but it is easy to use in our science experiments. Under Canadian Hazard Regulations this product is designated not hazardous. Click here for an MSDS for Sodium Bicarbonate from VWR

Sodium bicarbonate

Citric Acid

Does it sound familiar?  Citric Acid is a found natually in many frouits and vegetables, especially in the Citrus Family.  Its often used as a preservative in foods and drinks, and even as an binding agent (emulsifier) in icecream.However it is a moderate Acid and it can cause Irritatin on the skin and especially in the eyes. Under the Canadian Hazard Classifications this product is recognized as a Category 2 Eye Irritant.  Please wear safety Gloves and Glasses when using. Check out the MSDS for Citric Acid from VWR.

5% Acetic Acid

Sounds very sciency, however, you probably have this product already in your home.  It is commonly known as White Vinegar.  Cleaning Vinegar is a higher concentration of Acetic Acid (up to 10%) and can cause mild chemical burns.
